A Vaishno Devi package should do exactly one thing: get you to the Bhawan and back without making you solve Katra's logistics yourself. We have run this yatra since 2010 from an office on Railway Road in Katra, which means yatra slips, helipad slots, ropeway queues and hotel check-ins are handled by people who live at the foot of the Trikuta hills — not by a call centre in another state. Nine packages below, from a ₹7,500 three-day trek to same-day helicopter darshan.

What a Vaishno Devi package actually covers

Almost every Vaishno Devi package you will compare online is built from the same six parts. It is worth knowing them, because the gap between a ₹7,500 quote and a ₹25,000 quote is usually just two of these, not some difference in devotion:

  • Hotel in Katra — the single biggest price lever. Katra runs from ₹1,200 dharamshala-style rooms to four-star properties on the main market.
  • Jammu transfers — airport or railway station to Katra is 61 km, about 90 minutes. Included in every package we run, both ways.
  • How you get up the hill — the 14 km walk, the Ardhkuwari ropeway, a pony or palki, a battery car, or a helicopter to Sanjichhat.
  • Yatra Parchi (RFID registration) — mandatory, free, and the step first-timers most often get wrong.
  • Meals — usually breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Lunch is generally on you.
  • Someone on the ground — the part that has no line item and matters most on the day the weather turns.

Vaishno Devi package price list

Every Vaishno Devi package we currently run, cheapest first:

Helicopter Same Day Return1 day₹36,220
Helicopter SDR with Jammu stay2 days / 1 night₹45,370
Helicopter NDR with SSVP Puja2 days / 1 night₹61,120

These are starting prices. What moves them is hotel category, your travel dates and group size — Navratri and the summer school holidays price very differently from a weekday in February. We quote the exact per-person rate for your dates rather than asking you to guess from a band.

Which Vaishno Devi package should you book?

If you want the fastest darshan: helicopter

The Vaishno Devi helicopter package replaces a four-to-five hour climb with an eight-minute flight from Katra Helipad to Sanjichhat, leaving a 2.5 km walk to the Bhawan. Helicopter boarding passes also carry priority darshan, so the queue at the cave is shorter. This is the package to book for elderly parents, for anyone with a knee or heart condition, and for the very common case of three days of leave and a long journey at both ends.

If you want the traditional yatra: trek or ropeway

The 14 km walk from Banganga to the Bhawan is the yatra as most devotees picture it, and it is genuinely doable — the track is paved, lit through the night, and lined with tea stalls the whole way. Most people take five to seven hours up. The Ardhkuwari ropeway removes the steepest stretch if you want a middle option. The 3-day trek package is our most-booked plan for a reason.

If you have two nights and three days

This is the default shape of a Vaishno Devi trip and the one we would recommend to a first-timer: arrive in Jammu and transfer to Katra on day one, do the yatra on day two with a full day to spare, and travel home on day three. It absorbs a late train, a weather hold on the helicopter, or a slow darshan queue without wrecking the trip. Both the trek version and the helicopter version run to this 2 night / 3 day shape.

Vaishno Devi package from Katra

If you are already reaching Katra under your own arrangements — a lot of devotees do, especially those coming by train to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station — you do not need the Jammu transfers, and you should not be paying for them. Our ex-Katra package starts and ends in Katra: hotel, yatra slip assistance, the Nav Chandi Path puja at the Bhawan, Atka Aarti and priority darshan, with nothing billed for transport you are not using.

Vaishno Devi packages for couples and families

For a couple, the trip that works best is rarely Vaishno Devi alone — three days in Katra is a pilgrimage, not a holiday. The Vaishno Devi with Kashmir package pairs the darshan with Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam over seven days, which is the combination most honeymoon and anniversary bookings end up choosing.

For families travelling with grandparents and children, the two considerations are pace and altitude. The Shiv Khori and Patnitop circuit spreads five days across the Jammu region so nobody is doing the hill on consecutive days, and Patnitop gives the children something that is not a queue. Families who want the darshan itself to be easy should pair that pace with the helicopter.

Yatra Parchi and the RFID card

No devotee is allowed past the Banganga check post without a Yatra Parchi, and since the Shrine Board moved to RFID cards the slip is scanned at multiple points on the track. It is free. You can register in advance on the Shrine Board's own site at maavaishnodevi.org or collect it at the Katra counter, and you need the same photo ID at the counter that you registered with. Every package on this page includes registration assistance, because the counter queue at 4 AM during Navratri is exactly the kind of thing you booked a package to avoid. Our RFID registration walkthrough has the screen-by-screen version.

When to book

March to October is the main season, and within it March–April and September–October are the most comfortable — clear views of the Trikuta range without the July humidity. Both Navratris fill Katra completely: hotels double, the track runs shoulder to shoulder, and helicopter seats are gone within minutes of release. If your dates fall in a Navratri, book six to eight weeks out. For an ordinary weekday outside season, two weeks is plenty. Read the month-by-month breakdown before you fix dates, and the how to reach guide if you are still choosing between the train to Katra and flying into Jammu.

Frequently asked

How much does a Vaishno Devi package cost?+

Our Vaishno Devi packages start at ₹7,500 for a 3 day / 2 night trek package and run to ₹61,120 for the helicopter NDR package with SSVP Puja. The helicopter package with 2 nights in Katra starts at ₹13,250. What moves the price is hotel category, your dates and group size — Navratri and school-holiday weeks cost noticeably more than a February weekday.

What is included in a Vaishno Devi package?+

Every package we run includes your Katra hotel, Jammu airport or railway station transfers both ways, breakfast and dinner, Yatra Parchi (RFID) registration assistance and on-ground support in Katra. Helicopter packages also include return Katra–Sanjichhat tickets. Lunch, pony or palki charges and your travel to Jammu are not included.

Which Vaishno Devi package is best for 2 nights and 3 days?+

2 nights and 3 days is the standard shape for this yatra and we run two packages to it: the 3-day trek package from ₹7,500, and the helicopter package from ₹13,250. Day one is your arrival and transfer to Katra, day two is the darshan, day three is departure. The spare day is what protects you if the helicopter is weather-held or the darshan queue is slow.

Do you have a Vaishno Devi package from Katra itself?+

Yes. If you are reaching Katra on your own — most commonly by train to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station — our ex-Katra Nav Chandi Path package starts and ends in Katra with no Jammu transfer billed. It covers your hotel, yatra slip assistance, the Nav Chandi Path puja, Atka Aarti and priority darshan.

What is the best Vaishno Devi package for a couple?+

Most couples book the 7 day Vaishno Devi with Kashmir package from ₹22,000, which pairs the darshan with Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Vaishno Devi on its own is a two to three day pilgrimage rather than a holiday, so pairing it with the valley is what most honeymoon and anniversary bookings end up doing.

What is the best Vaishno Devi package for a family with elderly parents?+

The helicopter package. It cuts the climb from 14 km to a 2.5 km walk from Sanjichhat, and the boarding pass carries priority darshan so the queue at the cave is shorter. Palki and battery cart options are available at the top as well. If the family also wants a slower overall pace, the 5 day Shiv Khori and Patnitop circuit spreads the trip out so nobody is doing the hill on back-to-back days.

Do I need a Yatra Parchi, and do you arrange it?+

Yes, it is mandatory — nobody passes the Banganga check post without one, and since the move to RFID cards it is scanned at several points on the track. It is free. You can register in advance at maavaishnodevi.org or collect it at the Katra counter with the same photo ID you registered with. Registration assistance is included in every package on this page.

How long does the Vaishno Devi yatra take?+

On foot, most devotees take five to seven hours for the 14 km climb from Banganga to the Bhawan, plus the return. By helicopter the flight is eight minutes each way with a 2.5 km walk at the top, so the darshan fits comfortably into a single morning. Add 2.6 km each way if you are continuing to Bhairon Nath Temple, which the Shrine Board treats as completing the yatra.

When is the best time to book a Vaishno Devi package?+

March to October is the main season, with March–April and September–October the most comfortable. Both Navratris fill Katra completely — hotel rates double and helicopter seats go within minutes of release — so book six to eight weeks ahead if your dates fall in one. Outside season, two weeks is usually enough.

Is the shrine open all year?+

Yes, the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is open 365 days a year, around the clock. Winter is the quietest time on the track and January can bring snow at Sanjichhat, which occasionally holds helicopter departures — a reason we build a spare day into the 3-day packages.
