Spring — blossoms & tulips
Almond and cherry blossom open the season, and Asia's largest tulip garden blooms along Dal Lake for 3–4 weeks from late March. Gardens are at their freshest and hotel rates are still reasonable in March.
Kashmir is genuinely a four-season destination — tulips and blossom in spring, cool green summers, blazing chinar autumns and a white snow-globe winter. The "best" month depends entirely on the Kashmir you want.
Best time to visit Kashmir: March to October for sightseeing; December to February for snow & skiing

Peak family season: Gulmarg gondola, Pahalgam's Betaab and Aru valleys, Sonamarg glacier trips and shikara evenings on Dal Lake. Book houseboats and hotels well in advance; this is when the plains are hottest and Kashmir is at its most pleasant.
The valley turns copper and gold as chinar leaves fall, saffron is harvested at Pampore in late October, and crowds thin out. Arguably the most beautiful and best-value window for photographers and couples.
Gulmarg becomes India's premier ski resort with reliable powder from late December; Srinagar freezes into misty mornings and kangri warmth. Pack serious woollens and keep flexible plans for snow-day flight delays.

April–June is the overall sweet spot: gardens in bloom, all excursions open and pleasant 15–30°C days. For snow choose January–February; for autumn colours late October.
Srinagar usually sees its first serious snow late December, with January–February the snowiest months. Gulmarg, at 2,650 m, holds skiable snow from late December to early March.
Kashmir sits in a rain shadow, so July–August showers are far milder than the plains. Days are green and warm — just keep highway buffer time if driving via Jammu.
