Best Time to Visit Manali

Manali runs two peak seasons — summer for escaping the plains and December–January for snow — with gorgeous, underrated shoulders in between.

Manali tour packages Destination guide

Best time to visit Manali: March–June for pleasant sightseeing; December–February for snow

Season by season

Manali through the year

Mar – Jun 10–25°C

Spring & summer — the classic escape

Orchards bloom in March–April, and May–June brings perfect 25°C days while the plains roast. Solang adventure sports, Jogini falls treks and Sissu day trips all run at full tilt. Expect holiday crowds late May–June.

Jul – Sep 13–22°C

Monsoon & green season

Rain arrives mid-June to September — the valley turns emerald and rates drop, but landslide holds on the Mandi highway are possible. September is a hidden gem: washed skies, few tourists, everything open.

Oct – Nov 4–18°C

Autumn

Crisp air, golden poplars and clear mountain views; fresh snow dusts the peaks by November while town stays comfortable. A superb couples-and-photographers window before winter rates kick in.

Dec – Feb -5–10°C

Winter — snow season

Snowfall in town is common December–February, with Solang and Sissu turning into full winter playgrounds (skiing, snowboarding, tube rides). New Year is the single busiest week of the calendar.

Timing tips from our team

  • For near-guaranteed snow in town, target January; for snow play with thinner crowds, February.
  • September quietly offers the year's best weather-to-crowd ratio.
  • New Year week doubles hotel rates — book 6+ weeks out or shift by a few days.
  • Solang's adventure activities pause during heavy monsoon spells.

Best time to visit Manali — FAQs

When does it snow in Manali?

In town, typically late December to February. For assured snow underfoot year-round-ish, head up to Solang (Dec–Mar) or through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, which holds snow longer.

Is June a good time for Manali?

Weather-wise, yes — 15–25°C and everything open. It is also the busiest month; book hotels and Volvos early and expect Mall Road crowds. Early June beats late June.

Should I avoid Manali in monsoon?

July–August brings rain and occasional highway holds, but also an emerald valley and the year's best prices. If you are flexible and unhurried, it is lovely; if on a tight schedule, prefer September.
