Best time to visit Vaishno Devi: March–June and September–November; Navratri for the festive peak
Pleasant climbing weather, especially at night. Chaitra Navratri (Mar–Apr) brings beautiful decorations and bigger crowds; May–June school holidays are busy but the lit night track stays comfortable.
Green hills and a dramatic misty track, but expect showers, slippery patches and occasional helicopter cancellations. Crowds dip outside weekends — good for a quiet darshan if you pack rain gear.
The best all-round window: crisp air, clear valley views and the grand Sharad Navratri celebrations (Sep–Oct) when the shrine is at its most festive. Book Katra hotels early for Navratri.
Cold but magical — occasional snow near the Bhawan, thin crowds and the shortest queues of the year. New Year sees a brief spike. Carry proper woollens; the pre-dawn aarti hours are freezing.

Yes, the shrine never closes. Even in peak winter the track is maintained and lit; only rare extreme-weather days see temporary battery-car or helicopter suspensions.

Katra itself rarely sees snow, but the Bhawan (5,200 ft) and Bhairon temple get occasional snowfall in January–February — a rare and beautiful darshan if you catch it.
