Trip Overview
If there is a heaven on Earth, it is here — and for over four centuries poets, emperors and travellers have agreed. The Srinagar-Gulmarg-Pahalgam circuit is the definitive Kashmir holiday, covering the three destinations that together give you the full spectrum of what this paradise offers. Srinagar, the valley's cultural and scenic heart, welcomes you with the still waters of Dal Lake and the grandeur of Mughal gardens built by emperors for their queens. A Shikara ride at dawn — when mist rises off the water, kingfishers dart between lotus stems and the mountains shimmer at the horizon — is one of those moments that mark you for life. Gulmarg — the Meadow of Flowers at 2,730 metres — is home to the Gulmarg Gondola, the world's highest operating cable car, which lifts you above the pine forests to Kongdori at 3,100 metres and optionally to Apharwat Peak at 4,200 metres where you stand above the clouds. In winter it transforms into one of Asia's finest ski resorts; in summer it blooms with wildflowers and hosts the world's highest golf course. Pahalgam — the Valley of Shepherds at 2,130 metres — is Kashmir at its most serene. The Lidder River cuts through the town, pony trails wind through pine forests to the meadow of Baisaran (called Mini Switzerland), and the remote valleys of Aru and Betaab (named after the Bollywood film shot here) reveal Kashmir's wilder, more unspoiled face. This 5-day tour is ideal for families, couples and first-time Kashmir visitors.
