These are starting prices. Navratri, which falls on 19 to 27 March and 11 to 20 October in 2026, along with the school holiday weeks, prices far above a February weekday, because Katra hotels roughly double and helicopter seats vanish. The three premium plans at the bottom are built on the Shrine Board's separate Jammu to Bhawan helicopter service, which is a different and much costlier product than the Katra sector flight. Katra has everything from ₹800 rooms near the bus stand to branded four star properties within a few minutes of the yatra gate. The single biggest swing in any quote you receive is which of these the operator has quietly assumed. Always ask which hotel category a headline price is built on, and ask for the property name before you pay. A ₹7,500 quote and a ₹12,000 quote are often the identical itinerary with a different bed in it.

How to reach Katra, from Delhi, Jammu and beyond

• By train to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (station code SVDK). The New Delhi to Katra Vande Bharat takes about eight hours and runs six days a week. The Shri Shakti Express runs daily in roughly ten to eleven hours. Several other services cover it in eight to twelve.
• By air into Jammu airport (IXJ), then about 50 km and 90 minutes by road to Katra.
• From Delhi, most packages use an overnight train or Volvo in both directions with two Katra nights in between.
• From Jammu, it is a 61 km transfer from the airport or railway station, included in every plan we run.

Which itinerary shape suits you

Two nights and three days is the default, and the shape we recommend to almost every first timer. Arrive and transfer to Katra on day one, do the yatra on day two with the whole day free for it, travel home on day three. The spare day is the point: it absorbs a late train, a weather hold on the helicopter, or a slow darshan queue without wrecking the trip. Compress this into a single overnight and every one of those becomes a risk you are carrying personally.

Three or four nights adds a Patnitop or Shiv Khori day for families who want the trip to feel like a holiday rather than only a pilgrimage. It also spreads the physical load so nobody is doing a hill on consecutive days, which matters with grandparents in the group.

Seven days with Kashmir is what most couples end up booking. Vaishno Devi on its own is a two to three day pilgrimage, not a holiday, so pairing the darshan with Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam gives the trip a second half.
