Trip Overview

Jodhpur, the 'Blue City' and second largest city of Rajasthan, is dominated by the awe-inspiring Mehrangarh Fort — rising 120 metres sheer from the rocky outcrop above the city. Founded in 1459, Mehrangarh is one of India's largest and most imposing forts, its massive walls containing ornate palaces, painted chambers and exquisite jali-screened windows. Below the fort, the old city of Jodhpur is painted in shades of electric blue — the traditional color of Brahmin homes, but now embraced by the whole old city — creating a stunning visual spectacle visible for miles. The Jaswant Thada cenotaph, a white marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, offers beautiful views of the fort. Umaid Bhawan Palace — partly a royal residence, partly a heritage hotel and partly a museum — is one of India's last great palace-building projects. Jodhpur's Sardar Market and Clock Tower area is one of Rajasthan's most atmospheric bazaars.

Is Jodhpur good for a day trip from Jaipur?

Jodhpur is 340 km from Jaipur (5-6 hours by road or 2 hours by train). It is better appreciated as a 2-3 night stay. NorthYatra recommends combining it with the Rajasthan royal circuit.

What is the best food in Jodhpur?

Jodhpur's culinary specialties include Mirchi Bada (chilli fritters), Pyaaz Ki Kachori (onion pastry), Mawa Kachori (sweet), Dal Baati Churma, and the famous Jodhpur Lassi. The Clock Tower area has the best street food.

Can I do zip-lining at Mehrangarh Fort?

Yes, Flying Fox Jodhpur offers a thrilling zip-line circuit between six lines across Mehrangarh Fort — one of the best adventure experiences in Rajasthan. It can be added to your package.

What is Umaid Bhawan Palace?

Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the world's largest private residences, built between 1928-1943. Part is still the home of the Jodhpur royal family, part is a luxury hotel, and part is open as a museum.
