Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) in Amritsar is where the journey begins — the Akal Takht, one of the five Takhts (seats of temporal authority) of Sikhism, stands adjacent. The morning experience of Amrit Vela kirtan, the langar and the parikrama (circumambulation of the sacred pool) sets the spiritual tone for the entire trip.
